Golf in Switzerland

Information for the golfer on golfing in Switzerland: the clubs, facilities and golf organisations. With information on calculating a handicap for a Swiss course and some information on clubs in the Zurich and Geneva areas.

Switzerland has about 60 private golf courses (9 and 18 holes), and one public golf course, the Executive Golf de Chessel, between Aigle and Lac Leman.

There are also some public driving rages, and many mountain resorts have golf courses for guests who may play without being members. Certain clubs allow non-members or visitors of members to play, but rarely at weekends or on public holidays.

Switzerland also has the world's largest indoor golf club, at Zumikon, near Zürich.

Club dress code is determined on a club-by-club basis – standard golf attire. Certain golfing shoes with spikes are forbidden from April to October on some Swiss golf courses.

The Swiss Golf Association and the Swiss Golf Network can provide both amateurs and professionals with detailed information concerning the various clubs and the tournaments that take place.

Note that a medical certificate is necessary for golfers participating in tournaments across the French border.
