Furniture, Hardware & Appliance Shopping in Switzerland

Swiss chain stores that supply the basic furniture, home furnishings (curtains, carpets, cushions) white goods and electrical appliances (fridges, stoves, kettles, washing machines and tumble dryers, dishwashers, TVs and computers) and DIY for your home

What follows is a small selection of basic self-service furniture, appliance and DIY hardware chains stores in Switzerland. There is no guarantee that anyone will speak English, but once you have found what you need, little more than basic French should be necessary for the transaction.

  • Look in the Yellow Pages or on the stores' own websites for the branch closest to you.
Hypermarkets, Supermarkets & Superstores
  • Migros: Hypermarket for groceries, clothing, electrical appliances, garden equipment and furniture and toys. Migros has a policy not to sell alcohol or cigarettes
  • Coop: A selection of items from kitchen utensils, electrical appliances, clothes, toys, plants and groceries.
  • Carrefour: Hypermarket selling white goods (fridges, stoves, cookers, washing machines and dryers, kitchen appliances), electrical appliances (irons, hairdryers and so on), audio visual equipment (TVs, DVD players, computers, cameras, telephones) and tools and power tools and garden equipment. Self-assembly shelving and basic furniture and clothing. Also motor accessories and pet foods and other. It also has a large grocery section.
  • Manor: Supermarkets for food, clothing, tools, electrical appliances, soft furnishings and beauty products.
  • Denner: Supermarket offering a range of low cost food products and a large selection of alcohols.
Furniture & Appliance Shops
  • Conforama: Chain of furniture stores with many shops in France and 11 stores in Switzerland. For furniture and home accessories. Goods include kitchens and bathrooms, beds and bedding, tables, chairs, cupboards and office furniture, also appliances (fridges, stoves, washing machines and dryers and so on) and audio visual goods (TVs, DVD players and sound systems).
  • Fly: Inexpensive "fashionable" furniture and home accessories. Goods include beds and free standing cupboards, outdoor furniture, soft furnishings and bathroom and kitchen detail accessories.
  • Ikea: Swedish-owned furniture shop for all home and home office furniture, soft furnishings, home accessories, flooring, crockery and children's toys.
  • Interio: Modern design furniture and home accessories. 
  • Pfister Meubles: Chain of furniture stores with a wide selection of furniture for the office, children's bedrooms, dining rooms, lounges as well as soft furnishings and accessories for the home: bed linen, table linen, rugs, curtains and lighting.
  • Roche Bobois: Designer furniture for bedrooms, dining rooms and living rooms. Also soft furnishings (curtains, cushions).
  • Fust: Over 140 shops in Switzerland for cookers, washing machines, dryers, televisions, refrigerators, freezers and vacuum cleaners.
Building Material, Hardware & DIY
  • Coop Brico & Loisirs: Self-service hardware and DIY articles for the home and garden: bathroom and kitchen fittings, lighting, shelves, garden tools and furniture.
  • Hornbach: DIY megastore and garden centre selling tiles, flooring, tools, wall paper, paint, bathroom fittings and garden products. 
  • Jumbo: Self-service hardware and DIY store with basic domestic hardware and lighting, garden furniture, plants, bicycle accessories and children’s toys.
  • Migros Brico Loisirs: Self service DIY store part of the Migros chain selling floorings, paints, wallpapers, soft furnishings, tools and garden equipment.
