Voting in the US Presidential Elections

The absentee ballot: How to register and make your vote from overseas in the Primary, run-off, special elections and general elections in the United States of America

US citizens living overseas in Switzerland are eligible to vote by absentee ballot in Presidential Primary, run-off, and special elections, as well as the General Elections held November.

The absentee voter must be registered to vote with their local state election authorities. The voter should request a ballot at least 60 days before the scheduled election date. Be aware that registration dates differ from state to state.

The US Embassy in Berne provides comprehensive information on how to register and make your vote on this page.

Further information is available from the Voting Assistance Officer at the U.S. Embassy/Consulate in Berne. The office of the Voting Assistance Officer is open to calls Monday to Friday from 14:00 to 17:00.
