007- Licenced to... drive?

When you move to a new country, how long may you drive on your existing licence? Can you exchange it for one issued by the host country? Where do you go? How do you do this?

Keep or change?

Anyone may drive on a valid "foreign" driving licence for up to a year provided you have insurance in Switzerland. Depending on where your licence was issued you may also be required to carry an international licence. But if you plan to stay in the country longer than 12 months it's essential to register with the Road Traffic Office in your canton and apply for your foreign driving licence to be replaced with a Swiss one.

Make sure you have the facts at your fingertips - and that you are driving legally - by checking The AngloFILE category Cars, Bikes & Driving for INFOrmation Pages on:

And if you're resident across the border, the rules are very different, find out about Foreign Driving Licences in France.

What else?

To keep up with all the new stuff on AngloINFO is easy - just click here! We've been adding new entries to the AngloFILE just about every day, and there are now over 2,500 listings there!
